Vin Diesel Unleashes Furious New Look at ‘Riddick 4’

After 12 years, Richard B. Riddick is back! The popular action star has revealed a first look at the new sci-fi sequel, showing him reprising his role with the iconic, glowing eyes fans know and love. You can see the new trailer for Riddick 4, now titled Riddick: Furya, here.

I was so excited to see Vin Diesel post a new image of himself as Riddick on Instagram! The caption, “What these Furyan eyes have seen…” definitely got me hyped. While we’re still waiting for a real trailer or even a glimpse of footage, just seeing him back in the role is amazing. Honestly, it’s been over ten years since the last film, so I’m really hoping they release that trailer soon!

Set to be written and directed once again by David Twohy alongside creators Jim and Ken Wheat, the sci-fi action sequel not only finds Diesel as the lead but also as a producer on the project. Alongside the new image, the official synopsis for Riddick: Furya has also been released and reads:

I’m so excited Riddick is back, and this time he’s going home – a place he hardly remembers and honestly, dreads revisiting. Turns out, it’s not just him struggling to survive; he finds other Furyans battling for their lives against some terrifying new creature. And the really cool part? Some of these Furyans are surprisingly similar to Riddick himself – it’s like finding long-lost family in the middle of a warzone!

The Riddick Universe Is Expanding…

Vin Diesel first became known as Richard B. Riddick in the 2000 sci-fi action film, Pitch Black. The movie introduced Riddick as a prisoner struggling to survive on a dangerous planet with creatures that only come out at night. Since then, the character and his backstory have become much more complex. This development continued in 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick, which revealed Riddick is the last of the Furyans – a powerful, ancient race known for their physical and mental strength. The most recent film, 2013’s Riddick, moved away from the large-scale story of Chronicles and focused on a more contained, survival-based plot, with Riddick once again stranded on a hostile planet and hunted by deadly mercenaries.

Now that the Fast and Furious series is nearing its conclusion with an eleventh film—though recent news suggests Fast X from 2023 might actually be the end—Vin Diesel is likely searching for his next big franchise, and Riddick could be it. He’s previously hinted at expanding Riddick into a broader universe, excitedly stating it was “expanding… so cool. Inspired.”

Vin Diesel has two highly anticipated sequels in the works: Riddick: Furya and The Last Witch Hunter 2. News about the latter project first surfaced in September.
