So, Compile Heart just dropped a bunch of new info on their website for Villion:Code, the action JRPG being made by Koji Okada (you might know him as Cozy!) and a team of folks who used to work at Atlus. They also put out a press release in Japanese, basically giving us the highlights of everything new they posted. I’m getting more hyped for this game!
I’m so excited about the new update! It’s adding a bunch of cool gameplay stuff, and even more importantly, some really important characters who are going to be central to the story. Plus, Compile Heart just released some previews of the music by Tsukasa Masuko, which sounds amazing, and the opening movie! It features a song called “Rebirth Code” by FRAM, and it looks fantastic – it’s really getting me hyped for the game!
Below you’ll find samples of the opening movie and background music, following our descriptions of the new gameplay and character details. Villion:Code will launch in Japan on June 25th for PlayStation 4 & 5, and Nintendo Switch 1 & 2.
More Gameplay Features
- Preventing Ring-Out Defeats: Initial details explained on how anyone who is blown away from the battle area would be immediately knocked out. There is now an additional method to prevent this for allies with a QTE prompt. Successfully pressing the button will allow them to return to the field. When an ally character has a higher affinity level, their QTE prompt will have a longer input tolerance duration.
- Skill Switch: During a battle, you can spend an ally’s Skill Gauge to activate their Mutation skill. You will afterward switch your controls to that specific character.
- Stun & Elemental Unleash: Damaging enemies together with allies will fill up gauges that can stun an enemy to make them more susceptible to massive damage or to unleash a specific character’s elemental effect. For an example of the latter, the protagonist’s Consciousness element can freeze time for a short while.
- Rush: Hitting a stunned enemy with specific attacks and Mutation Skills will trigger a Rush mode for a certain period of time, where the protagonist’s Rush Skills and allies’ Mutation Skills can be rapidly used without spending Skill Gauges.
