A love story set in a vampire theme, featuring Saya Minami and Whitney Duff, leads the lineup revealed by Australia’s Black Forest Films and New Zealand’s genre specialist Black Mandala. “Haunted & Devoted,” scheduled for festival premieres around mid-2025, serves as the foundation of a four-film agreement between the companies.
The collaboration persists as we move forward with “Grand Finale: A New York Odyssey,” a modern take on giallo featuring drag artist Love Connie, scheduled to film in November. Additionally, two more projects are in the works: “Bubblegum,” a humorous murder mystery, and an unnamed survival horror production that takes inspiration from John Carpenter’s “The Thing” and the gaming series “Resident Evil” and “Silent Hill.
Michael Kraetzer from Black Mandala expressed great enthusiasm about their fresh partnership with the gifted crew at Black Forest Films. Their creative storytelling techniques and commitment to producing top-notch films make them an ideal fit for our expanding catalog. We believe their distinctive projects will captivate audiences worldwide, strengthening our standing for offering premium genre content,” stated Michael Kraetzer. His company, which has offices in Argentina, the U.K., and Spain, has been gaining traction with “1978,” a genre festival hit that premiered at Sitges in 2024.
Based in Melbourne, the creative collective known as Black Forest, renowned for their underground hits “Under a Kaleidoscope” and “Chocolate Strawberry Vanilla,” along with the Tokyo-set thriller “The Viper’s Hex,” the 80s slasher tribute “My Cherry Pie,” the U.S. road trip crime story “An American Masquerade,” views this partnership as a significant achievement. “We are ecstatic about teaming up with Black Mandala,” said co-director/writer of Black Forest, Addison Heath. “As avid admirers of their exceptional work, we can’t wait to combine our efforts and become part of their talented group.
Fellow collaborator Jasmine Jakupi remarked that our four-movie lineup has been in development for some time, and Black Mandala’s support has given it renewed energy.
Over the past few months, Black Mandala has acquired the rights for two films – “Play Dead”, a survival horror movie, and “Lake Jesup: Bonecrusher’s Revenge”, a creature-themed feature.
