Vampire Crawlers Emerged Out Of Multiple Different Prototypes That Were Totally Different

Poncle, the team behind the hit game Vampire Survivors, has revealed their next project, Vampire Crawlers. The game came about after the developers experimented with several concepts.

Luca Galante of Poncle told TopMob that Vampire Crawlers wasn’t their initial plan after Vampire Survivors. They began by exploring five different game ideas, collaborating with several indie teams to experiment. Ultimately, Vampire Crawlers stood out as the most promising project, leading them to focus on that one.

The team’s first attempt was a huge success. They quickly grasped the core idea, and that initial prototype became the clear frontrunner. It wasn’t a calculated choice, but simply the one that developed most smoothly and quickly.

Poncle had a lot of different ideas, as Galante described. He clarified they weren’t anything conventional like a sports game. He’s a big RPG fan, and at one point, they were developing a couple of different role-playing games.

He explained that players familiar with Vampire Survivors might recognize hints about his future projects. He mentioned that if a particular game seems to have influenced Vampire Survivors, he’s likely developing a spin-off based on that game’s genre.

Galante explained that a metroidvania game would be ideal for their studio, and felt it was a very natural direction to take – perhaps even an obvious one.

I’d really love to incorporate something like Castlevania into the game, and I’d simply ask Konami for permission to do so – it feels like a natural fit. Alternatively, if I were to create a metroidvania-style game, I’d likely use the characters and world from Legacy of the Moonspell, or perhaps Tides of the Foscari. I’m aiming to explore options beyond the style of Vampire Survivors.

Vampire Crawlers will launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices in 2026. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass starting on day one of its release, according to Poncle.
