It’s been buzzing around that the Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Major Tournaments might be expanding from 24 teams to 32 teams. Interestingly, Valve has hinted at this shift without making a formal announcement, instead subtly confirming it through a CS Major Supplemental Rulebook, which many fans may not even notice or be familiar with.
Absolutely, it’s been confirmed that a total of 32 teams will participate in the main tournament of the BLAST.tv Austin Major. It’s crucial to note that all organizers are required to adhere to the regulations set by Valve for any Major Championship event.
In the previously mentioned “additional rules guide,” Valve explicitly outlined this recent update, which includes the statement, “Key elements: 32 teams.
Additionally, there’s a reference to Major Regional Qualifiers (MRQ), which are proposed as substitutes for RMR events and an extra round. For more information, please review the details provided below.
- 16 teams are invited to Stage 1 from the Major Regional Qualifiers.
- 8 teams are invited to Stage 2 based on Valve Regional Standing.
- 8 teams are invited to Stage 3 based on Valve Regional Standing.
Typically, a Major Championship consists of two Swiss Format stages – the Opening and Elimination Stages, formerly known as Challengers and Contenders. However, with the updated format, an additional stage has been added, making the CS2 Majors approximately four days longer than before. In simpler terms, this means more teams and more CS2 esports excitement!
