Valve recently announced three new devices planned for release in early 2026: a controller, a Steam Machine, and a VR headset. The Steam Machine is particularly interesting, as it’s designed to function like a traditional home console, allowing players to access their existing Steam games in a new way. While details are still limited, Valve has shared more information on their website.
Valve announces the Steam Machine, which will launch in early 2026
The Steam Machine is a small, box-shaped device that’s significantly more powerful than the Steam Deck – Valve says it’s six times faster, yet still runs quietly. It’s designed to play games at 4K resolution with a smooth 60 frames per second, powered by a custom AMD graphics card. Like the Steam Deck, it runs SteamOS and includes features like remote play, cloud saves, and a desktop mode. Importantly, it’s also a fully functional PC, meaning you can install and use any software and accessories you like. The trailer also shows that the front panel is easily customizable with different styles.
Although the new Steam Machine is generating a lot of buzz, the presentation also revealed two other new products. First, a new Steam Controller was announced. It’s similar to the Steam Deck, offering features like dual trackpads, buttons on the back, and advanced HD haptics. The controller appears larger than most, but it’s designed to be compatible with all Steam devices, including the recently unveiled Steam Frame VR headset.
Valve’s Steam Frame is a new, wireless VR headset designed to be comfortable and lightweight. While VR hasn’t become hugely popular yet, this device could help change that, especially if it lives up to Valve’s claims about comfort and weight. Steam Frame will likely offer access to your existing Steam game library, including both VR and traditional games. Valve also plans to implement a system to verify compatibility with the headset, similar to how the Steam Deck currently works.
We don’t yet know how much the new hardware will cost, but Valve says it will be available in early 2026, so we won’t have to wait too long. The Steam Deck has been very popular since its release in 2022, and it was initially hard to buy. Depending on the price of these new devices, we might see a similar situation where they sell out quickly and become difficult to find.
