Okay, so I just heard that Valheim is finally coming to PlayStation in 2026! It’s been out on Steam in early access for five years now, and it hit Xbox three years ago, so PlayStation players are getting it a little later, but I’m still super excited!
While a specific release date in 2026 wasn’t revealed, Iron Gate Studio co-founder Henrik Törnqvist expressed excitement about bringing Valheim to PlayStation consoles and reaching a wider audience.
We’re excited to welcome both new and returning players to our game, giving more people the chance to experience the world we’ve created and share their Viking stories,” said Törnqvist.
The popular survival game Valheim quickly became a success, selling over 1 million copies in its first week on Steam and exceeding 12 million copies sold overall. Players on Xbox and PC can play together, and if you buy Valheim on Xbox or the Microsoft Store on PC, you get access to the game on both. It’s currently unknown whether the PlayStation version will allow players to connect with those on other platforms.
Valheim is currently in early access and has received several large updates over the past four years, adding new areas like the Mistlands and Ashlands. The latest update, ‘Call To Arms,’ significantly improved the combat system and introduced trinkets – new items players can equip. This update also added new enemies, weapons, armor, building materials, and character customization options. The developers are still working on another new area called the Deep North.
According to Iron Gate’s Steam FAQ for Valheim, the game won’t officially launch until the ‘Deep North’ update is finished. They also mention the game’s price may go up while it’s still in early access.
If you’re curious whether Valheim lives up to the buzz, TopMob considers it one of the best indie games of 2025. It’s also incredibly popular on Steam, ranking among the top 20 games ever based on the number of players online at the same time.
