Utawarerumono Zan 2 set to launch on Steam, including an English translation

DMM Games, Shiravune, and Aquaplus have revealed that Utawarerumono Zan 2 is coming to PC through Steam. The game will feature Japanese voice acting and will support text in Japanese, English, and Traditional Chinese. Currently, there’s no confirmed release date.

Utawarerumono Zan 2 is an action RPG in the musou style, continuing the story from Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth. It’s a sequel to the first Utawarerumono Zan game, which was based on Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception.

The first Zan game came to English-speaking players in 2019 with its release on PlayStation 4. However, Zan 2 was never officially translated for that platform. This means the recently announced PC version will be the first time Western audiences can play the game with official English localization.

The original Utawarerumono Zan is set to launch for Steam on October 23.

The trailer you see on the game’s Steam page is the introductory movie, which we’ve included below. It was originally from the PlayStation version (uploaded by YouTube user ‘Yasumi Watahashi‘) and is followed by a description from the store page and some screenshots.

Combine exciting fighting moves, gear that changes how you play, and powers that grow stronger. Build a powerful team from over 20 characters and fight your way through more than 50 story missions in this thrilling adventure. Utawarerumono: Zan is back, and it’s better than ever!

Beyond Mask of Deception

The main story mode retells the events of Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth, and features lots of new, fully-voiced cutscenes unique to Utawarerumono: Zan 2. These additions broaden the game’s world and give you a deeper understanding of the characters.

3D Hack-and-Slash Reborn

Okay, so Zan 2 is seriously a step up from the first one. They’ve added this cool new Skill Board system, and the combat feels much smoother – it’s really letting me focus on building my character and seeing how strong I can get. Plus, there’s this new base system where I get to hang out at Oshtor’s estate in Ennakamuy. I can chat with my companions, push the story forward, and of course, level up everyone. The best part? I can actually upgrade the base itself with points I earn just by playing the game! It’s a really nice way to feel like I’m constantly progressing, even when I’m not actively on a mission.

Animated Storytelling

Forget paper dolls! This adventure truly comes to life with 3D animated story cutscenes. They give important moments the impact and setting they need, making the experience more immersive than ever before.

Dream Online

As a gamer, I’m really excited about Dream Arena mode! Whether you’re playing solo or with friends, it throws totally new enemies, challenges, and maps at you that just wouldn’t fit in the main story. And the best part? You can play online with people from all over the world!
