Utawarerumono: Lost Frag shuts down on April 23

Aquaplus announced that online services for Utawarerumono: Lost Frag will end on April 23 at 2:00 PM Japan Standard Time. They’ve also stopped all in-app purchases in the game right away. Players who have remaining paid gems will be able to request a refund from April 23 until July 13 at 2:00 PM JST, following the server closure.

Most companies explain why they’re shutting down free-to-play games, often saying they couldn’t keep players engaged. However, Aquaplus didn’t give a specific reason for closing Lost Frag. They simply thanked players for their support of the game, which launched in late November 2019 and will have been running for about 6 years and 5 months when it closes.

The recent shutdown of services further suggests that Aquaplus is ending the Utawarerumono series for the time being. Following the announcement of the release date for Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered in a Famitsu interview, Aquaplus stated this new RPG will be the final installment in the series. The story arc, planned by Munemitsu Suga, is now complete, and the company has no current plans to develop further Utawarerumono projects, as they intend to focus on their other game franchises.
