USA and Belgium involved in “brutal” kit clash that ruins World Cup warm-up

The recent friendly match between the USA and Belgium was difficult to follow because both teams wore nearly identical uniforms, and neither had a different set to change into.

The US Men’s National Team is getting ready for the World Cup, but they’ll be looking for a better performance than they showed in their recent game against Belgium.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team suffered a significant defeat, and the game was made even worse by a disastrous kit clash that was difficult for viewers to watch.

USA vs Belgium was unwatchable due to kit clash

The US team played in their new kit featuring bright red and white. Belgium, on the other hand, wore their away uniform, which combined sky blue and pink.

Up close, the two soccer jerseys look quite different. However, the problem arises when viewed from further away. The US team’s jersey has a white back, and the Belgium jersey is a light color that can easily be mistaken for white, causing confusion.

The United States is playing Belgium in Atlanta, but it’s easy to get the teams confused because they’re wearing very similar uniforms.

Fans watching the game, both in the stadium and on television, had trouble telling the two teams apart. According to a report from The Athletic, one fan at the Atlanta match explained, “It was really confusing… I was trying to distinguish them by their shorts.”

Fans watching at home voiced their frustration on social media. One person commented that it was difficult to distinguish between the USA and Belgium jerseys during the game, particularly in wide shots, due to the large white area on the back of the American jersey.

Fans expressed strong dissatisfaction with the kit colors, with one asking, “How is this not a clear kit clash?” Another went further, saying the clashing colors were so severe they would have prompted them to stop playing if they were using a FIFA game.

Players didn’t seem to formally complain about the kit conflict, and even if they had, there likely wasn’t a quick fix. Belgium also has a red kit that would have clashed with the new USA kit, and the host team apparently didn’t bring a spare, as they intended to use their red and white striped kit all along.

The US Men’s National Team suffered a disappointing 5-2 loss. With the World Cup starting June 13th, they now face a tough challenge to improve their performance before playing on home turf.
