Upgrading buildings in Anno 117 is essential, but it’s useful to know how to do it much faster

In Anno 117, improving your homes is essential for progress. More advanced industries need a skilled workforce, and you get that by upgrading residences. While upgrading buildings individually can be slow and repetitive, this guide will explain why upgrading is important and how to upgrade several buildings at the same time.

Why upgrade residential buildings?

To grow your economy in Anno 117, you’ll need to consistently find and utilize more valuable resources. These better resources require skilled workers to produce. You get these skilled workers by upgrading homes. To upgrade a home, you first need to make sure its residents have everything they need, like food and clothes, and then spend a little bit of building materials. When you upgrade a home, you’ll lose some of your less-skilled workers, but you’ll gain more highly-skilled ones.

You can’t simply replace one type of worker with another. Certain jobs, like operating a sawmill, require specific lower-level workers. Higher-level workers can’t fill those roles. Be careful when improving your workforce’s housing, as upgrading too quickly can lead to a lack of workers at your essential facilities. If you accidentally upgrade too many workers, you can always downgrade their housing using the options menu.

How to upgrade multiple buildings at once?

You’ll be upgrading homes frequently throughout the game, as they’ll make up most of your city. Upgrading them individually can be time-consuming, but there’s a faster way! Click the “upgrade” icon on the bottom of the screen to highlight all buildings currently available for upgrades – they’ll show an upward arrow. Then, simply click and drag your mouse over all the buildings you want to upgrade, and release to upgrade them instantly. This saves you a lot of clicking and makes the process much simpler.
