Upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movies: Release Dates & Details

For decades, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael – have been popular characters in pop culture. Hollywood has repeatedly tapped into this popularity, releasing a series of films including a live-action trilogy in the 90s, an animated movie in 2007, two more live-action films in the 2010s, and a new animated film in 2023.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – the pizza-loving, wisecracking heroes known for fighting crime – are still incredibly popular. Paramount Pictures, which owns the rights to the franchise, is actively developing new movies based on the many compelling storylines from the comic books.

Instead of just one movie, Paramount is currently working on several Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films. Here’s an update on each project, including the people involved and potential release dates.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2

A sequel to the 2023 animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is in the works at Paramount. Currently called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2, the movie is now scheduled to come out on September 17, 2027, after being pushed back from its original 2026 release date.

Jeff Rowe will direct the sequel, and he’ll be working alongside co-directors Kyler Spears and Yashar Kassai. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are producing again through their company, Point Grey, with James Weaver, Josh Fagen, and Ramsay McBean also producing.

The next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie will continue the story after the first one, and the brothers will battle Shredder, a villain hinted at in the credits of TMNT: Mutant Mayhem.

While Shredder’s voice actor hasn’t been revealed yet, the main cast – including Micah Abbey as Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, Brady Noon as Raphael, Jackie Chan as Splinter, and Ayo Edebiri as April O’Neil – is expected to reprise their roles. We might also see some other characters return who fans already know and love.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Live-Action Reboot

Paramount is working on a new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, scheduled for release on November 20, 2025. Producer Neil H. Moritz, known for his work on the Fast & Furious and Sonic the Hedgehog films, is leading the reboot.

Currently, details about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie are limited. Paramount aims to revitalize the franchise, making it appealing to everyone, much like they did with the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. We can expect a blend of live-action and computer-generated imagery, with a focus on action and comedy, and a PG rating.

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot is starting from scratch – currently, there’s no writer, director, or cast in place. They haven’t even begun to choose actors for the main characters – the turtles themselves, Splinter, Shredder, April, or anyone else who might appear in the story.

Paramount hasn’t announced a release date for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie yet, as the project is still in its early stages. They’ll be able to share a timeframe once the creative team is assembled and development progresses further.

As a huge fan, I’m trying to be realistic about when this movie might finally come out. If development and filming take the usual couple of years each, we’re probably looking at 2028, or even later, unless everyone involved really speeds things up. I’m hoping for sooner, of course, but that seems like a likely timeframe based on how these things usually go.

TMNT: The Last Ronin

Paramount is developing a unique Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, separate from their other projects. They revealed in 2024 that they’re creating a live-action movie based on The Last Ronin storyline.

This five-issue comic series is based on a graphic novel from 2020-2022 by Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, and Tom Waltz. It takes place in a different future where Michelangelo is the last surviving Ninja Turtle, as the rest of the team was killed by the Foot Clan. Driven by revenge, Mikey embarks on a quest to eliminate Shredder’s grandson.

When the comic book became popular, Paramount Pictures naturally began considering a live-action movie adaptation. Plans were in development for “The Last Ronin” to be a mature, R-rated film, with Tyler Burton Smith (known for Boy Kills World) writing the screenplay and Walter Hamada producing. They were also discussing having Ilya Naishuller, the director of Nobody, helm the project, with a potential release in early 2025.

The movie adaptation of The Last Ronin has been paused as Paramount and Skydance are now focusing on a different live-action film aimed at families. They decided to put the more violent and mature Ronin project aside to prioritize something more suitable for all ages.

Paramount is reportedly keeping the possibility of revisiting this project open for the future. While it’s not happening right now, it hasn’t been completely ruled out. For now, the focus is on Moritz’s reboot, which will be crucial in deciding what happens with the franchise next.

If the current movie is successful and brings the franchise back to life, plans for The Last Ronin could be revisited. This film would offer a chance to explore a fresh perspective on the universe, independent of the expectations tied to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand.
