Unused Man of Steel Posters Revealed – And They’re Gorgeous

Recently, some old posters from the movie Man of Steel have surfaced, showing new images of Henry Cavill as Superman. The film, which originally launched Zack Snyder’s vision for a connected DC Universe, is celebrating its 13th anniversary this year. While that universe has since ended with James Gunn now leading DC films, fans still fondly remember the original series.

DC fans are buzzing over recently shared artwork from the movie Man of Steel. Artist Oleg Zatler posted several unused promotional posters on his website, and they’ve quickly become popular online. There are eight posters in total, each with a striking design that fans are sure to love.

Many of the discarded posters consistently featured scenes of Metropolis being destroyed, which was the backdrop for the movie’s biggest battle. One image showed Henry Cavill as Kal-El standing on top of a train as it smashed through a skyscraper, with smoke billowing in the distance.

I remember one scene vividly – a huge crater right in the middle of Metropolis. It was incredible and terrifying, with Superman’s iconic ‘S’ symbol cracking its way across the ground in these bright red fissures. It really emphasized the scale of whatever had happened.

You can find several versions of this design on Latner’s website, including a classic movie poster and three more. One version shows Superman flying over a destroyed city.

I was checking out another poster, and it shows the main character standing on top of a tower, looking down at all the chaos and damage below. It really sets the scene!

And the last is more of a banner image with the city appearing in Supes’ cape.

Latner also created other design options. One notable idea featured a scene inspired by the opening flight sequence from the 2013 DC movie, showing Cavill’s Superman soaring directly into the sky.

This piece highlights a unique interpretation of the House of El crest, with Superman’s image subtly incorporated into the design of the “S” symbol.

Okay, so the newest trailer snippet reminded me a lot of the early Man of Steel marketing – Henry Cavill as Superman, gazing out over a really stark, frozen landscape. It’s clearly meant to be the area around his Fortress of Solitude, though it’s interesting to note this is the old design. James Gunn has given the Fortress a complete makeover for the new DC Universe, so this is a look at the version we won’t be seeing going forward.

It’s a mystery why these old posters are suddenly appearing online, but they’re definitely getting DC fans excited. With the DC Extended Universe now finished, many devoted fans are eager for any remaining content from that series. These previously unseen promotional materials will likely be closely examined and shared by those who still follow the work of Zack Snyder.

The movie Man of Steel premiered on June 14, 2013, starring Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film presented a darker take on the classic superhero’s origin story, focusing on his battle against the villain General Zod and his fellow Kryptonians. This film kicked off the DCEU, DC’s attempt to create a shared universe similar to Marvel’s MCU, which lasted until 2023.

Will Henry Cavill’s Superman Ever Return to the Screen?

After it looked like people had stopped hoping to see Henry Cavill as Superman in a new movie, these posters appeared and immediately got everyone talking about it again.

Many fans feel Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Superman didn’t get a fair chance within the DC Extended Universe. While his movie Man of Steel launched the franchise and his version of the hero was generally well-received, he wasn’t featured enough in later films – a sequel to Man of Steel was never made.

When James Gunn and Peter Safran began leading DC Studios, rumors started circulating about Henry Cavill possibly returning to the role of Superman. He briefly appeared in a scene after the credits of the 2022 film Black Adam, and people were discussing the possibility of a sequel to Man of Steel being made.

Honestly, I was really surprised when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC and decided to go with a brand new Superman instead of bringing Henry Cavill back. It felt like everything we thought we knew about their plans just went out the window.

It appears Henry Cavill won’t be returning as Superman. Both he and the DC franchise have moved on to new projects. Since leaving the role, Cavill has taken parts in other comic book films, including Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024, and is now working on a large-scale adaptation of Warhammer 40K, which he’ll both produce and star in.
