A recent trailer for the upcoming Disney+ animated series, Marvel Zombies, shows a fierce fight between the zombie versions of Ikaris and Captain Marvel. Directed and co-written by Bryan Andrews, the series is set to launch on September 24, 2025, as part of the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Marvel Zombies teaser shows brutal new footage
This four-part miniseries continues the zombie-themed storyline that began in an episode of Marvel’s *What If…?* Season 1. Brad Winderbaum, who heads streaming at Marvel Studios, has described that original episode as a preview of this larger, more extensive story, which will be released next year (according to Entertainment Weekly).
This is Marvel Studios Animation’s first series aimed at mature audiences. Director Bryan Andrews wants viewers to be surprised by what happens, saying he hopes people will watch and think, ‘Wow, I didn’t see that coming!’ (according to Collider). The story centers around a virus that comes from the Quantum Realm and turns Earth’s heroes into zombies, leaving heroes like Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, and Kate Bishop as some of the remaining survivors.
Elizabeth Olsen will return as Scarlet Witch, along with Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and David Harbour as Red Guardian. The film will also feature Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Awkwafina as Katy, and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, all reprising their roles.
I’m so excited to see Randall Park back as Jimmy Woo! And Dominique Thorne is fantastic as the new hero, Riri Williams. We’re also getting Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent again, which is great, and Tessa Thompson is returning as Valkyrie – awesome! Plus, Hudson Thames is back as Spider-Man, and Todd Williams is lending his voice to Blade. It’s a really impressive cast!
Early footage from a Disney presentation revealed a scene where Shang-Chi, his father Wenwu, and Katy are fighting zombies. The Ten Rings organization rescues Shang-Chi, but Wenwu gets infected. Later, the story jumps ahead in time to show Shang-Chi and Katy fighting Skrulls on motorcycles in a desolate landscape. The show’s executive producers are Zeb Wells, Bryan Andrews, Kevin Feige, Brad Winderbaum, Louis D’Esposito, and Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt.
I’m so excited! Disney+ is dropping all four episodes of Marvel Zombies at once, which means I can immediately binge-watch the whole series. No waiting for new episodes each week – it’s going to be amazing!
