Umamusume fans have generously donated $615,000 to help care for Meisho Doto, a beloved and famous racehorse, in her retirement.
The fundraiser aims to help Northern Lake, a retirement farm in Japan that is home to the former racehorse Meisho Doto. The farm’s barns are in disrepair and urgently need to be rebuilt to ensure the horses living there, including Meisho Doto, have a safe and comfortable environment.
Meisho Doto was a famous Japanese racehorse in the early 2000s, but he was often remembered as the horse who consistently came in second to another great racer, T.M. Opera O. Despite not winning many races, he became very popular with fans after he retired, thanks to his kind and gentle personality.
Meisho Doto’s popularity has skyrocketed around the world, largely due to the hit game Umamusume: Pretty Derby. This viral horse racing simulator reimagines famous racehorses as anime characters, and the increased attention has been a significant boost to the expensive project of rebuilding Meisho Doto.

Last November, Yoshie Sasaki from Northern Lake noted that fan support has been much more than just financial contributions.
We received a lot of heartwarming support through the crowdfunding campaign, with people expressing their kindness not just for the horses, but also for the well-being of our team, she explained.
Listening to the encouragement of everyone who believed in our project, I started to feel optimistic that this could offer a real chance for positive change, not only for Northern Lake, but for struggling horse ranches everywhere.
For those who love Meisho Doto and Uma Musume: He’s now a beloved legend enjoying a peaceful retirement in Hokkaido. He lives at Northern Lake, a farm dedicated to his care, not profit. The barns that shelter him and his fellow horses are getting old, and we are…

Donations are still being received, and the farm has now raised its fundraising goal to 100 million Yen – about $665,000. The money will be used to upgrade the stables and create a more comfortable living space for Meisho Doto and the other horses.
Crowdfunding ends on December 22, and over 7,000 supporters have donated towards the campaign.
It’s not the first time we Umamusume players have shown love to actual racehorses! Remember when fans overseas sent tons of ryegrass to Haru Urara? And it’s awesome to see how dedicated some of us are – people are traveling all over Japan to visit retirement farms connected to the Umamusume girls, just to help support the real horses in their golden years. It’s a really cool way to connect with the game and give back.
