Umamusume fans can literally buy bits of a fence smashed by legendary race horse

Fans of the popular game Umamusume can now purchase merchandise crafted from pieces of the fences broken by a famous retired racehorse in Japan.

Tanino Gimlet was a famous racehorse, and after he retired, he became well-known for constantly kicking and breaking the fences around his paddock.

Fans have long joked about the playful destruction caused by the former Derby winner, and now the farm where he lives, Versailles Resort Farm, is playfully embracing the joke by selling related merchandise.

Fence fragments broken by Tanino Gimlet turned into amulets

Versailles Resort Farm began selling unique, handmade amulets on January 6th. These special charms are crafted from wood salvaged from a fence that legendary golfer Tanino Gimlet famously broke upon his retirement.

Every item is one-of-a-kind. The official product description explains that each piece has a unique appearance because of the wood’s natural grain and the individual hairs from the horse’s mane used in its creation.

Tanino Gimlet, a former Derby winner, became famous for constantly breaking the fences of his enclosure at Versailles Resort Farm after his racing career. Instead of throwing away the broken boards, the farm staff decided to turn them into unique souvenirs, transforming the horse’s troublesome habit into limited-edition collectibles for fans.

These amulets cost around $145 (¥22,000) and will begin shipping on January 31, 2026. International shipping will also be offered.

The trend of fans buying ‘fence amulets’ shows how dedicated Umamusume fans are blending their love for the game with real-life actions. This dedication extends to supporting retired racehorses, with fans contributing funds to care for horses like Meisho Doto and Transcend.

Cygames has expanded the franchise’s reach into real-world motorsports, most recently by sponsoring a significant $300,000 Grade 1 horse race in the U.S.
