Ultra rare gaming artifact with only 50 copies has been destroyed

A very rare video game from the 1990s – only 50 copies were ever made – was reportedly ruined after being badly damaged during shipping to the United States.

This is a demo version of Tsukihime, a visual novel first sold for around 70 cents at the Comiket convention in 1999.

Just fifty copies of this work were ever produced, and it came out before TYPE-MOON gained worldwide recognition with the Fate series.

This trial disc was made in very limited quantities, making it one of the rarest gaming items the studio ever created. When a fan finally found one, they expected to be thrilled, but instead were shocked and confused.

Devastating damage to rare gaming artifact

On February 26th, a user named Keripo shared a photo on X showing the badly damaged condition of a rare video game they received. The game’s floppy disk was completely broken, and the plastic case was bent and cracked. Even the included promotional poster was crumpled, leaving the collector very upset with how the package had been handled.

I just received my extremely rare Tsukhime Trial Edition – only 50 copies were made! Unfortunately, Customs damaged it during shipping, removing the protective bubble wrap and completely ruining the floppy disk. I’m filing a report, but I’m really upset about it.

Keripo emphasized that the sender had taken considerable care to protect the item during shipping, carefully wrapping it in bubble wrap and securing the floppy disk between cardboard to prevent bending or damage.

I just received my incredibly rare Tsukhime Trial Edition – one of only 50 copies worldwide! Unfortunately, US Customs damaged it during shipping, removing the protective bubble wrap and completely destroying the floppy disk. I’m filing a report, but I’m honestly heartbroken right now. 😭 #TYPEMOON #Tsukihime #月姫

The unpacking video revealed that all the protective packaging had been taken off, and a customs sticker indicated the box had been opened and resealed.

The story quickly spread online, and many people expressed sympathy for Keripo, sharing his disappointment over losing such a unique gaming item.

One commenter noted that the Tsukihime Trial Edition isn’t just a rare and famous visual novel; it’s the game that launched Type-Moon’s success and influenced countless creators. They expressed sadness about the destruction of one of the few remaining copies.

The trial version of Tsukihime is extremely rare – only 50 copies were ever made – and we couldn’t find any currently for sale. This makes it very difficult to determine its value. It’s a real shame for fans and collectors who want to own a piece of gaming history.
