I can’t believe this is happening! My kid’s school, Lilliput Church of England Infant School in Dorset, is telling students to stop singing songs from KPop Demon Hunters on Netflix. Apparently, some parents and staff are upset about the lyrics, which mention demons, and feel it doesn’t fit with the school’s Christian beliefs. It’s a bit much, honestly – it’s just a fun show, and the kids love the songs! I know a lot of other parents are pretty frustrated about this too.
The message explained that the songs connect to demonic forces seen as against God and morality, and requested that parents discourage their children from singing them at school.
Interim head teacher Lloyd Allington updated parents on Monday, explaining he’d heard from others who thought the songs had good messages. However, he also said the school wanted to be there for anyone who felt the topics were difficult to deal with.
KPop Demon Hunters songs banned from school
The animated movie KPop Demon Hunters quickly became Netflix’s most popular film of all time in August. It tells the story of Huntr/x, a fictional K-pop group who battle demons with a unique combination of music and martial arts to save the world.
I was so shocked when I heard about this ban! One dad told the BBC he felt the same way – he thought it was totally ridiculous. His daughter and all her friends are really into K-pop, and he said it’s just a fun, harmless activity that helps them feel more confident. It’s just a nice thing for them to do, and I can’t believe anyone would try to stop that!
Despite being prohibited at one school, the movie KPop Demon Hunters remains a huge hit. Since its release on August 23rd, it’s been viewed 236 million times on Netflix and streamed for over 393 million hours globally.
Even though a sequel hasn’t been officially approved, Director Maggie Kang has talked about exploring a storyline they didn’t have room for in the first movie. This suggests we might see more KPop Demon Hunters in the future.
