Ubisoft Lifts The Veil On The Animus Hub, The “New Home” For The Assassin’s Creed Series

In 2022 during the Assassin’s Creed Showcase at Ubisoft Forward, it was announced that Assassin’s Creed Infinity would be serving as a central platform for the popular game series. As described by executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté, this project, known as “Infinity,” is not intended to be a traditional game but rather a way to connect fans with the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Following its reveal, not much information has been disclosed to the public other than it being a joint effort between Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec, as mentioned in an official statement. Additionally, when initially announced, Assassin’s Creed Infinity was said to be several years away from launch. However, recent updates from Ubisoft have shed light on Assassin’s Creed Infinity, now officially known as the Animus Hub.

In a blog post on January 23rd, 2025, Ubisoft unveiled fresh insights about Assassin’s Creed Infinity, now officially named the Animus Hub, described as the “central hub for all Assassin’s Creed games.” Contrary to initial assumptions, the Animus Hub won’t function as a standalone application. Instead, it will be seamlessly merged with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as Ubisoft clarified that they intend to keep it an integrated part of their game rather than a separate feature.

This “smooth starting point” for the Assassin’s Creed series offers an immersive experience by placing players in a fresh Animus setting upon launching Shadows on console or PC. This new setting is portrayed as the “hacked Dark Animus of the modern-day world within Assassin’s Creed.” Upon entering this entirely new environment, players will have access to a comprehensive timeline showcasing recent Assassin’s Creed characters and other notable heroes, exclusive questlines within Shadows, and the opportunity to earn unique rewards as they progress.

The publisher has shared essential details about the Animus Hub and its capabilities, set to debut simultaneously with Assassin’s Creed Shadows on March 20th, 2025 for both consoles and PC. As per the aforementioned article, this interactive hub encompasses elements such as “Memories, Projects, the Exchange, and the Vault,” enabling players to delve into the past experiences of previous heroes.

According to Ubisoft, the Animus Hub will be accessible for the latest Assassin’s Creed titles, namely Mirage, Valhalla, Odyssey, and Origins, but only if these games are already owned and installed on your hardware. If you have the physical versions of these games, just pop them into the disc drive before starting up the game/s.

Sadly, games from the Assassin’s Creed series launched before Origins won’t work with the Animus Hub. But don’t worry, Ubisoft plans to keep enhancing this platform, adding new features and content over time. Once you access the Animus, you can find “Anomalies” using the Projects feature, which lead to Hub missions in Shadows. These missions can also be accessed directly from the Target Board within the game.

Once players come across these “anomalies” hidden in the Projects section, they can work to resolve them and collect Animus Keys as rewards. It’s important to note that these keys are not available for purchase with real-world money. Instead, content from the modern-day world, which can be accessed via the Vault feature, might appear within the Shadows. Ubisoft has hinted that they plan to delve deeper into this connection as the Animus Hub continues to develop and grow.

Through finishing in-game missions, players gain access to completely free and exclusive items from the Animus Hub. This hub will consistently offer fresh missions thanks to regular content updates, all provided at no additional charge. Additionally, Ubisoft has confirmed that the Animus Hub can be accessed without an internet connection. However, it should be noted that its live features such as Projects, the Exchange, and the Vault require an active internet connection.
