Massive Entertainment, the studio behind games like The Division, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Star Wars: Outlaws (and a part of Ubisoft), has announced it is laying off some employees. The company described the layoffs as a “voluntary career transition program” in a statement on social media.
To better support our future plans and the continued success of The Division franchise, we’ve reorganized our teams and resources. This will help us focus on developing great games using technologies like Snowdrop and Ubisoft Connect.
Massive highlights that the program will provide participants with both financial assistance and career guidance. This is designed to empower them to advance their careers in a way that suits their individual goals.
Even though the studio has reduced its staff, they want to assure players they are still dedicated to their current and future projects. Here’s what’s coming up: a new Survivors mode for The Division 2, the mobile game The Division Resurgence, the early development of The Division 3, and the From the Ashes expansion for Avatar.
A few months ago, people were saying that production on Survivors was just beginning. With some team members departing, it could potentially cause further delays.

Following the launch of a new studio called Vantage – a collaboration between Ubisoft and Tencent – Ubisoft has decided to reorganize its team structure. Vantage will be responsible for overseeing the development of three of Ubisoft’s biggest game franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six Siege. The impact of this change on other Ubisoft teams and projects is currently unknown, and the number of employees affected has not yet been revealed.
