Twitch streamer Lululuvely discovered that the computer she used at TwitchCon had a hidden program on it before she even started streaming. This program could have put her online accounts at risk.
TwitchCon is Twitch’s yearly event where streamers, employees, and fans meet in San Diego to celebrate the past year. This year’s convention, however, has been marked by some issues for the Amazon-owned company.
Popular streamer Emiru was attacked at a recent meet-and-greet when a man grabbed her face and tried to kiss her without her permission. While Twitch had promised increased security due to prior concerns raised by streamers, Emiru stated that the company’s claim of the attacker being immediately removed by security wasn’t entirely accurate.
Okay, so it turns out my PC at Twitchcon was probably hacked before I even got there. Apparently, streamer Lululuvely discovered it had some kind of hijacking program already installed on it. Super scary stuff, honestly!
Lululuvely questions TwitchCon PC security issue
At TwitchCon, Lulu discovered a program called SafeFinder on a computer she was using â a computer that wasn’t hers. She wasn’t the only streamer to use a borrowed PC at the event.
She said she hadn’t heard any updates about the computer she was using, but she was really curious if the program in question was installed on all the computers at TwitchCon.
I encountered a harmful program that took control of my web browser on my computer. While I was streaming, multiple browser windows opened on their own and started typing by themselves â it seemed like a hijacking attempt.
According to Microsoft, SafeFinder is a dangerous program disguised as a browser. It automatically sends you to harmful ads and fake security warnings, which can be alarming and may even lead to your personal information being stolen.
Lulu acknowledged the incident at TwitchCon wasn’t the most serious thing to occur, but pointed out that no one else seemed to be discussing it. As a precaution, she had already updated her passwords.
VTubers were upset and disappointed at TwitchCon when staff reportedly threw away gifts that fans had sent them.
