Twitch streamer banned and arrested for waving toy gun outside UK Parliament

A Twitch streamer and eleven other people were arrested close to the Houses of Parliament after displaying what appeared to be a firearm during a live broadcast.

On January 3rd at 10:50 pm, Krimoe, a content creator broadcasting near Westminster Bridge, and his group were unexpectedly approached by police officers.

Krimoe gained a large online following by broadcasting unpredictable and lively streams on Twitch and YouTube. Before his arrest, he had approximately 50,000 followers on Twitch, 80,000 on Instagram, and a substantial number of subscribers on YouTube – numbering in the tens of thousands.

Toy gun stream sparks major police response

During the livestream, Krimoe held what looked like a toy gun and made shooting sounds like “bang, bang, bang.” He was also pretending to be a rapper from Atlanta, saying things like “shoot the ops.”

The group openly passed the item around, even with cars and pedestrians driving and walking by on either side of the road.

Krimoe was arrested while live streaming near Big Ben after viewers thought he had a gun. It turned out to be a BB gun, but the incident highlights the differences in streaming regulations between the UK and the US.

As the live broadcast went on, an officer was heard shouting to the men, asking if anyone had a weapon and warning them not to cause any trouble.

Shortly after, police cars arrived with their lights on. Officers quickly surrounded the group and told everyone to raise their hands.

The men obeyed right away. They were made to stand in a line by a railing, then were handcuffed and arrested.

As a bit of a UK law enthusiast, I recently learned that carrying something that looks just like a real gun in public can get you into serious trouble. Apparently, you could face up to a year in prison if you’re caught with a realistic imitation firearm. It’s definitely not worth the risk!

Twitch streamer banned after toy gun leads to arrest

Police have confirmed 13 people were arrested for having what looked like a real gun in a public area. While initial reports said at least 11 people were held, the final count was 13, though numbers varied slightly in different news reports.

All those arrested were later released under investigation as enquiries continue.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police explained the incident in an official statement.

So, I was reading the news, and apparently the police got a call around 10:50 pm on January 3rd, near Westminster Bridge. Someone reported a group of guys who seemed to be carrying a gun, which is obviously pretty serious.

Police responded quickly and arrested the individuals on suspicion of having a realistic but fake gun in a public area. They have been released while the investigation is ongoing.

After his ban was lifted, Krimoe explained that Twitch had suspended him for 30 days due to the incident.

On January 6, Krimoe posted to Instagram to address fans and admit he had made a mistake.

I’m starting fresh with streaming on YouTube! I messed up on Twitch and have been banned, but I’m moving forward now.

Krimoe’s post indicates the content was uploaded from Dubai and shows a flight route from London to the UAE, suggesting he left the UK following the incident.
