Twitch addressed concerns raised by streamer Kalei, who publicly voiced her disappointment with a recent change to how much money she earns from subscriptions. Kalei said the platform lowered her revenue share from 70/30 without giving her any prior notice.
Kalei recently shared on stream that she received an email notifying her her initial esports contract—and the agreement where she received 70% of earnings while the platform kept 30%—had been revoked.
She stated she wasn’t sure why the decision was made, and explained she had a 10-year contract with Twitch for esports. She thinks her contract is still valid and has time left on it.

Twitch says historical contracts are being honored
So, Twitch just put out a message on X – basically, they’re saying they’re not changing how they pay creators who already have old agreements in place. Good to know my current deal isn’t about to change unexpectedly!
So, Twitch told me they’ve got deals in place with a small group of streamers who’ve been around since the very beginning – basically, the OGs who helped build the platform. They’ve been supporting them for a long time, it sounds like.
We’re keeping the terms of existing contracts the same, and this change won’t affect how or when payments are made to those who signed them.

Twitch clarified that the update Kalei mentioned involves their internal systems, not changes to contracts.
We’ve updated our systems today to simplify and speed up how we process payments for everyone.
Kalei explained that the recent changes to the platform mean her existing subscribers don’t count towards the requirements for partnership. She now needs to gain 90 new subscribers by March and plans to reach out to Twitch support for more information.
