Twitch is making efforts to discourage viewers who employ ad-blocking software by displaying notifications encouraging them to upgrade to a Turbo subscription instead.
Similar to YouTube in the past, Twitch is now implementing strong measures to discourage users from utilizing ad blockers. However, viewers assert that they remain undeterred by the actions of this Amazon-controlled platform.
2025’s Twitch viewers started noticing fresh pop-up messages appearing while they were watching live streams on January 13th.
To date, two distinct types of notices are appearing, urging users to disable their adblockers or opt for a Twitch Turbo subscription in exchange for an advertisement-free viewing experience.
Twitch takes aim at ad blockers with new prompts urging users to get Turbo
Users started sharing screenshots on various platforms, demonstrating instances where Twitch flagged their ad-blocker usage during live streams.
While tuning into Asmongold’s stream, courtesy of Pirat_Nation, I came across an intriguing message: “Hold up! You’ve got ad block on? Show your support for zackrawrr by disabling it.
Twitch is joining in on the AD block war

A user named ‘melmedardas’ suggested an alternative without naming a specific streamer. Instead, they recommended considering Turbo if you have an ad blocker active. Turbo on Twitch allows for ad-free viewing while continuing to support streamers.
Currently, a Twitch Turbo subscription stands at $11.99 USD monthly, which is slightly more affordable compared to YouTube Premium priced at $13.99. With this service, viewers can enjoy ad-free streaming experiences with their favorite content creators on Twitch.
You might as well not begin this trouble… The ad-blocker isn’t effective in blocking advertisements on Twitch, truth be told. It hasn’t been for quite some time – over a year or more at least. Honestly, it’s high time we acknowledge that fact.

Online users expressed disappointment over Twitch’s latest approach, criticizing the platform for implementing this change, given that it was already proficient in identifying numerous ad-blocking tools previously.
As a loyal Twitch viewer, I often wonder, “What more could Twitch possibly desire since their ads are already built-in and seemingly immune to adblockers? Is there anything else they’re aiming for?
Another user exclaimed, “The ads on Twitch are incredibly irritating; I refuse to disable my ad blocker.
Twitch has the most annoying ads ever, theres no way im turning off my ad block.

I strongly advise against initiating this issue… it appears that your adblocker isn’t blocking ads on Twitch anymore, and it seems to have been the case for about a year or more. Honestly, it’s surprising.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that this isn’t an unprecedented action; other sites have also resorted to extreme tactics to disable adblockers. For instance, YouTube has been battling these tools for a considerable period and has even introduced new features with the intent of permanently disabling them. Simultaneously, they’ve been gradually raising the price of their Premium service.
