Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has downplayed concerns that AI streamers could eventually replace human creators on the platform.
With AI video technology getting better, we’re seeing a lot of popular online clips showing fake gamers and their interactions with viewers – all created using artificial intelligence.
Recently, AI-created influencers and models have become popular on Instagram, and some have successfully fooled people into thinking they are real, gaining large followings as a result.
This isn’t just happening on social media. Recently in Australia, people listening to the radio were tricked into thinking the host was a real person, but it turned out to be an AI creation.
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy says that audiences don’t really connect with streamers they know are AI-generated. He believes genuine human connection is what truly keeps viewers engaged.
Twitch CEO says viewers are too “attached” to streamers to ditch them for AI creators
In an interview with Bloomberg, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy discussed how artificial intelligence might impact the platform, and he expressed confidence that any changes would be positive.
He believes AI won’t replace Twitch creators because viewers connect with people on an emotional level, and that connection will always be the most important thing.

However, viewers sometimes become overly attached, and unfortunately, there have been many cases of stalking and violence involving fans and streamers. A tragic example occurred in September when a Korean streamer was murdered by a fan who had previously donated about $70,000 to her.
Clancy believes AI will simply be a way for streamers to enhance their creativity and do things they haven’t been able to before.
It used to be that creating something like a song required specific skills, but now anyone can do it. Similar to how video games provide content for streamers to react to and engage with their audience, AI offers streamers new ideas and tools to be creative and entertain people.
I was really interested to hear what Pokimane had to say on the panel with Clancy. She mentioned she’s not a fan of using AI for things like creating content right now, but she’s open to the idea if the technology gets better and offers more possibilities. It sounds like she’s keeping an open mind!
“For now, I really try to use my own two hands,” she countered.
