Twinless and Selena y Los Dinos Pulled from Sundance Online Screenings

In a different phrasing: Just as you wouldn’t dream of stealing a car, it’s surprising to find people illegally streaming the most popular movies from Sundance. Two movies have already been taken out of the digital, at-home screening schedule due to piracy and copyright violations – unauthorized clips and critical plot points were being shared for both films, neither having a distributor yet. While one (Twinless) won the audience award and another (Selena) was honored with the US Documentary Special Jury Award for Archival Storytelling, others are left in limbo as viewers can’t access them until they get sold. Here is more information about the films removed from the festival lineup.

Twinless

The steamy movie featuring Dylan O’Bryan, titled “Twinless“, had its intimate scenes and crucial storylines exposed due to copyright violations on several social media sites. As a result, the film “Twinless” was taken down from the Sundance Film Festival online platform following a joint decision by the festival organizers and the movie’s creators. They expressed their apologies that festival-goers who had purchased online tickets will no longer be able to view the film, as stated in an announcement made to Variety.

Selena y Los Dinos

In the documentary about Selena Quintanilla’s music career and personal life, previously unheard songs were leaked online, prompting Sundance to intervene. The movie, which is yet to secure a distributor, became the first film ever to be withdrawn from the festival due to copyright violations. Sundance released an announcement about the decision to the Los Angeles Times, saying: “We regret to inform our audience that ‘Selena y Los Dinos’ has been taken down from the Sundance Film Festival online platform due to a series of copyright infringements… We understand and are sorry for any disappointment this may cause. Protecting independent filmmakers and allowing them to safeguard their work and earn a living is part of our mission. We take copyright infringement very seriously and will work closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement to address the issue.
