It used to be that the Puppy Bowl was the main alternative to watching the Super Bowl – those were easier times! Now, following criticism from conservatives about Spanish being played during the Super Bowl halftime show, Turning Point USA has announced they’ll host their own “All American Halftime Show” as a replacement for Bad Bunny’s performance. It’s important to remember that Puerto Rico is part of the United States, making Bad Bunny just as American as anyone else – and a lot more fun to watch.
Turning Point USA (TPUSA), the conservative organization founded by Charlie Kirk and currently led by his wife, Erika, recently announced plans for a music event on social media. They promised to share performer details soon and invited people to vote for their preferred music genre – Americana, Worship, or any English-language music – in exchange for signing up to receive fundraising text messages from TPUSA.
Ever since Bad Bunny was named the Super Bowl Halftime performer, several Trump administration officials have reacted strongly. Corey Lewandowski and Kristi Noem from *South Park* both threatened that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would be present at the game. Even the former president called the choice “absolutely ridiculous,” despite admitting he wasn’t familiar with Bad Bunny. Interestingly, Bad Bunny performed at the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show without causing similar outrage from the far-right.
