Tulsa King Season 3 Ends Without Cliffhanger, Raising Questions for Future

Be warned, this article reveals major spoilers for the season 3 finale of Tulsa King. The ending of the show broke with a pattern established in Taylor Sheridan’s other crime dramas, and leaves the series’ future uncertain. Like previous season finales, the last episode saw Dwight eliminate his primary enemy—Jeremiah Dunmire this season—successfully complete his plan, and culminate in a celebration for the whole cast at Bred2Buck.

The third season of Tulsa King wrapped up with another seemingly positive outcome for Dwight and his crew, but it differed significantly from the endings of the previous two seasons. While there were minor variations, such as the betrayal of Russell Lee Washington Jr. and Cole Dunmire, one particular change could have major consequences for what happens in season four.

Tulsa King Season 3 Didn’t End With A Cliffhanger

Unlike the first two seasons of Tulsa King, season 3 didn’t leave viewers with a cliffhanger. Season 1 ended with Dwight’s arrest after accusations of bribery, and season 2 focused on his legal battle. Season 2 also saw Dwight kidnapped by Agent Musso, which set the stage for season 3’s storyline about capturing Dexter Deacon.

Unlike the previous two seasons, season 3 of Tulsa King doesn’t end with a surprising twist. Dwight successfully eliminates Jeremiah Dunmire, obtains his federal liquor license, and the season concludes with him relaxing at Bred2Buck. This leaves no major overarching mystery for a potential fourth season, and the show’s future direction is currently uncertain.

The season 3 finale of Tulsa King set the stage for potential future storylines. Now governor, Cal Thresher appears to want nothing to do with Dwight. Bill Bevilaqua probably wants revenge for being kidnapped, and Agent Musso still believes Dwight owes him a debt. However, unlike the endings of the previous two seasons, this finale felt like a satisfying conclusion to the series.

Don’t Worry, Tulsa King Will Continue Despite The Definitive Ending Of Season 3

Despite the conclusion of season 3, Tulsa King isn’t over yet! Season 4 has been confirmed, and a spin-off series called NOLA King, featuring Samuel L. Jackson, is also planned. Dwight’s efforts to take over Tulsa will continue, and there’s a possibility he’ll team up with Lee’s growing criminal organization in Louisiana.

While Tulsa King likely hasn’t been cancelled, its future is now much more uncertain. Previous seasons used dramatic season finales to hint at what was coming next – like Dwight’s arrest foreshadowing his legal troubles, or his kidnapping introducing the character of Musso. However, season 4 doesn’t have that kind of groundwork laid, leaving the show’s direction largely unknown.

It’s also strange that Tulsa King would abandon its cliffhanger ending tradition when we know for a fact that any loose ends will be tied up in new seasons. There was no guarantee that Tulsa King would be renewed for a second season when the first season ended on a cliffhanger, but now that there is a guarantee, the show has moved away from it. It’s possible the writers of Tulsa King simply got tired of setting up storylines between seasons that they then had to resolve later on down the line.
