Based in Paris, sales firm Loco Films recently released a preview for “The Pianist’s Choice,” a period drama set during World War II that is helmed by director Jacques Otmezguine.
In my perspective as an admirer, the tale spins around a fictitious French pianist named François Touraine, endowed with exceptional talent. Amidst the tumult of war, he was compelled to perform for the Nazis to protect the woman who nurtured his gift, Rachel, his mentor. Scarred by that ordeal, he reenters France, transformed in spirit. Yet, it’s not until he encounters Annette that he finds the courage to grace the stage once more.
In “The Substance,” Oscar Lesage is the actor who portrays Sue’s temporary lover, Francois Touraine. He shares the screen with Pia Lagrange, Zoe Adjani, Philippe Torreton, Marie Torreton, Laurence Côte, and Alain Manoukian, among other talented cast members. The film is directed by Coralie Fargeat, who was nominated for an Oscar. The main crew includes Dimitri Naïditch, a composer whose previous works include the scores for Claude Lelouch’s “Un plus une” and “Chacun sa vie.
This week, Laurent Danielou, the founder of Loco Films, is initiating film sales for the movie at the European Film Market.

Otmezguine mentioned that with ‘The Pianist’s Choice,’ he is delving into both music and history while also expressing his personal perspective on the issues that intrigue him and remain unanswered for him.
Following the end of World War II, music underwent significant changes influenced by the work requirements and conditions of the period. Cultural activities, notably in France, were subjected to various restrictions and censorships imposed by the German occupation forces. Remarkably, some composers and musicians persisted in creating music, often by hosting or performing secret concerts, as Otmezguine explained further.
