Justin Hartley, known for his role in the popular CBS drama about a survivalist, shared that Season 3 will include a special reunion. Before starring as Colter Shaw, Hartley was on NBC’s This Is Us, and he’ll be working with a former co-star in a future episode of his current show.
John Huertas will direct an upcoming episode of Tracker, Season 3, Episode 11. Many viewers will recognize Huertas from his role as Miguel Rivas on This Is Us, where he played Kevin’s stepfather. Though he hasn’t acted in Tracker, he previously directed two highly-rated and emotionally powerful episodes of the show, making his return to directing a highly anticipated event.
Tracker Season 3’s Promising Reunion Explained
I’m really excited to hear that Eric Huertas is back directing for Tracker! He’s doing the first episode of Season 3, titled “To the Bone,” and this will actually be his third time in the director’s chair for the show. He previously directed a couple of standout episodes – “Aurora” in Season 1 and “Nightingale” in Season 2 – both of which were fantastic, in my opinion. He clearly has a knack for this series!
In Season 1, Episode 9 of Tracker, titled “Aurora,” Colter Shaw goes to Aurora, Vermont to help a father, Gavin Russo, find his daughter, Lana, who disappeared three years prior. Working alongside Detective Helen Brock, Colter successfully brings Lana and her father back together.
The Season 1 finale of Tracker, titled “Aurora,” features a particularly moving reunion when Lana is finally reunited with her father after being held captive by Maeve Price for three years. Similarly, the episode directed by Huertas, “Nightingale,” is also incredibly impactful, and the director’s skill clearly contributed to its emotional power.
Colter meets Angie Hansley, a singer in town (played by Sydney Scotia). Everyone immediately suspects Ben Kinderson (Jim Parrack), a former soldier and survival expert, of kidnapping her. But Shaw eventually figures out that Ben was actually trying to keep Angie safe. Once the real culprit is revealed, Ben and Angie share a touching moment that wraps up the episode.
I have to say, this episode really delivered on the connection between Ben and Angie. Watching Ben protect Angie, you could feel a genuine bond forming between these two loners, and it was incredibly satisfying to see them finally end up together. A huge part of what made this episode so effective was the direction – Demian Huertas really brought something special to it. Hartley even called him an “artist,” and rightly so. He clearly has a deep understanding of people and emotions, which is exactly what this story needed. It was masterful direction, honestly.
What John Huertas’ Return Means For Tracker Season 3
Huertas is back directing, and this episode marks an important turning point for the show. Season 3 of Tracker isn’t shying away from putting Colter and his team in genuinely dangerous situations, as demonstrated in recent events. This willingness to take risks is increasing the emotional intensity, especially as Colter’s life is thrown into turmoil following a near-death experience with Keaton (Brent Sexton).
The new episode featuring Huertas will air on Sunday, March 8th, right after the first episode of the third season of Tracker returns. That first episode will show what happened to Colter and Keaton after their car accident. Fans will be excited to see this episode, as Huertas’ previous work on Tracker – specifically “Aurora” and “Nightingale” – were two of the show’s highest-rated installments.
However, the pairing of Huertas and Hartley on the show could be the season’s most exciting collaboration. Beyond simply reuniting two stars from This Is Us, this team-up continues a successful strategy CBS has used before to please its viewers.
After directing two particularly moving episodes that brought storylines full circle, fans have reason to be excited about “To the Bone,” the latest episode helmed by the same director. This installment will center on Colter’s investigation into the disappearance of an 18-year-old from a local restaurant, while Shaw uncovers a hidden part of his own life that he’s kept secret from his family.
Hartley has suggested a possible return for Huertas on his show, Tracker. When asked about working with Huertas again, Hartley praised his talent and said he’d be happy to have him appear in an episode, stating they would definitely find a role for him.
