As a huge Resident Evil fan, I’m seriously hyped for Resident Evil Requiem! The series has been on fire lately with games like 7, Village, and those amazing remakes. And everything I’ve seen of Requiem so far looks incredible – the trailers are really grabbing my attention, and I love that we’ll be able to play it in both first- and third-person. It feels like it could easily be another fantastic entry in the series!
If you loved the classic Resident Evil games – the first three – you might be looking for a similar style of gameplay. If that’s the case, Tormented Souls 2 could be perfect for you. It features a town filled with puzzles and a look and feel reminiscent of the original Resident Evil on GameCube, offering an experience that even Resident Evil Requiem might not fully satisfy.
Tormented Souls 2 Is A Perfect Resident Evil Alternative
Kicking It Old-School
Tormented Souls 2 continues the story of the first game, but you don’t need to have played it to enjoy the sequel. The first Tormented Souls takes place in a creepy mansion-hospital, while the new game puts the main character, Caroline Walker, in the town of Villa Hess. In both games, players will encounter challenging puzzles and terrifying enemies.
Ultimately, Tormented Souls 2 plays very similarly to Resident Evil. However, there’s still some flexibility in how much it resembles the original. Certain features, such as fixed camera angles designed to build tension, remain consistent.
Some players might find the game more approachable by using its assisted mode, which simplifies controls and allows for more frequent saving. While this can make it easier to pick up, truly experiencing the original Resident Evil‘s signature atmosphere of fear and tension is best done by sticking with the classic gameplay style.

If you’re saving money for the next Resident Evil game, one of the biggest advantages of Tormented Souls is how affordable it is. Tormented Souls 2 is a bit more expensive at $29.99, but it’s still significantly cheaper than what the next Resident Evil game is expected to cost.
Recently, we’ve seen a surge in popularity for survival horror games that intentionally evoke the classics, and that’s given us some really great titles like 2024’s Crow Country. Tormented Souls 2 is another strong entry in the genre, offering players excellent alternatives to the Resident Evil series if they’re looking for a similar, spooky experience.
