‘Top Gun 2’ Director Teases Mysterious New Sci-Fi Film as “Science Fact”

Joseph Kosinski, the director behind the hit film Top Gun: Maverick, is staying active with his newest movie, F1: The Movie, which is currently being considered for awards. In addition to developing sequels to his successful collaborations with Jerry Bruckheimer, Kosinski has another intriguing project in the works. Known for films like Tron: Legacy and Oblivion, Kosinski will once again explore science fiction, but this time with a Bruckheimer film he calls “science fact” – meaning it’s based on real possibilities rather than imagination.

Director Joseph Kosinski recently appeared on Deadline‘s Behind the Lens with Pete Hammond. In the interview, he talked about his key films, working with stars like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, and his close collaboration with producer Jerry Bruckheimer. He also hinted at a new science fiction project where he plans to push the boundaries of the genre.

I’m really excited to share that I’m collaborating with Jerry Bruckheimer on a project about UAPs – unidentified aerial phenomena. We’re talking to people who are deeply involved in this whole topic, and honestly, the conversations are incredible. Zach Baylin is currently writing the script, and we’re all working hard to get it finished and out there as soon as we can.

It sounds like something from a science fiction movie, but it’s actually happening in real life. That’s the core of the film, and I believe it’s a story everyone will be interested in seeing.

Joseph Kosinski is the director behind several recent blockbuster hits. He started his directing career in 2010 with Tron: Legacy and has since directed films like Oblivion, Only the Brave, and the hugely successful Top Gun: Maverick. His latest film is F1: The Movie. Kosinski received nominations for his work on Top Gun: Maverick from both the Saturn Awards and the Directors Guild of America, and both that film and F1 have been major box office successes.

Joseph Kosinski has proven his talent for science fiction with films like Tron: Legacy and Oblivion. He particularly enjoyed making Oblivion, his first collaboration with Tom Cruise, because it allowed him to tell an original story – something he considers a rare and valuable opportunity. While he once considered remaking classic sci-fi movies like Logan’s Run and The Black Hole, those plans didn’t work out. He also shared his thoughts on returning to the science fiction genre.

I’m a big fan of science fiction, especially the thought-provoking concepts it explores. I was raised on films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, and I think science fiction is a fantastic genre for examining big ideas.
