Be warned, this contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 8 of Landman, titled “Handsome Touched Me.” Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) has taken the show’s strangest storyline to a whole new level. As Season 2 nears its conclusion, Tommy’s biggest worry as President of M-Tex is saving the company from the bad choices being made by its new owner, Cami Miller (Demi Moore).
Honestly, as much as I love a good thriller, this guy Norris is really stressed. He’s dealing with a ton at work – a shaky oil deal financed by this shady character Gallino, trying to protect his son Cooper from getting mixed up with the same guy, and just generally putting out fires as a landman. But you know what’s worse? He actually dreads coming home. It’s like his personal life is even more chaotic than his job!
Tommy’s life became more challenging when his estranged father, T.L. Norris (Sam Elliott), moved in with him in Midland, Texas. Tommy’s ex-wife, Angela (Ali Larter), arranged for T.L. to live with them, forcing Tommy to overcome years of bad feelings and try to build a relationship with his dad.
Tommy Hiring A Stripper For His Dad Is Even Weirder Than Angela & The Old Folks
In season 2, episode 8 of Landman, Tommy Norris’s father, T.L. Norris, unexpectedly fell into a swimming pool. This incident spurred Tommy to take a strange turn in the storyline, as he visited Rick’s Cabaret, a strip club in Midland, Texas, hoping to find a physical therapist to help his father.
Tommy employed Cheyenne (Francesca Xuereb), an exotic dancer, as a physical therapist for his father, T.L., despite her having no medical training. Tommy believed his father wouldn’t cooperate with a regular, qualified therapist – something Cheyenne readily admitted she wasn’t – but would be receptive to someone he found attractive.
Tommy was right, and T.L. felt comfortable being held by Cheyenne in Tommy’s pool. Cheyenne seemed to like T.L. and was having a good time. However, the whole situation was strange, especially since Tommy hadn’t even told Cheyenne his name or address before hiring her, and she had to ask.
One of the strangest parts of Landman involves Angela and Ainsley Norris (played by Michelle Randolph) and their efforts to entertain senior citizens, which even included a trip to a strip club. This storyline feels separate from the show’s central plot and comes across as simply a way to give the character Angela something to do.
Tommy’s unusual choice of a stripper as his father’s physical therapist was a shocking move that made people question his judgment. Despite being bizarre, it actually worked and was more engaging than Angela’s current storyline, which feels like it’s going nowhere.
Landman Season 2 Is Like Watching Two Different Shows
Season two of Landman feels quite different from its first, almost like two separate shows. Tommy’s work, both as a landman and the head of M-Tex, is especially captivating, particularly the developing connection between Gallino and Cami, and the show’s unsettling foreshadowing of what’s to come in the oil industry.
Alongside Tommy’s main storyline, a budding romance between Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace) and geologist Charles Newsom (Guy Burnet) is developing. This relationship reveals more about the complex attorney Rebecca, though it’s also proving to be a source of frustration for some viewers.
Season two of Landman featured some standout episodes, like the touching funeral for Tommy’s mother and a surprisingly sweet “Pirate Dinner.” However, the show hasn’t felt as strong since then, and seems to have lost some momentum.
The current state of Landman season 2 feels disjointed. The show splits its focus between Tommy’s main storyline and the somewhat strange escapades of Angela, Ainsley, and their senior friends. Tommy’s decision to hire a stripper as his father’s physical therapist was a particularly unusual move, even topping some of the bizarre things Angela has done in the past.
