Tommy Lee Jones, the famous actor, is set to appear in the next season of . This marks a change of pace for Jones, as it’s a role unlike any he’s taken in nearly forty years.
I’m so excited to see Sam Jones joining the cast of The Lowdown! It’s incredible to think this is his first regular role in a scripted TV series in over three decades. Most people know him from his amazing film work, but I’ll always remember his powerful performance in Lonesome Dove back in 1989 – he was even nominated for an Emmy for it! And before that, he won an Emmy in 1983 for The Executioner’s Song. It’s fun to look back at his earlier TV appearances too, like One Life to Live, Barnaby Jones, Baretta, and even Charlie’s Angels. What a career!
Tommy Lee Jones Joins Betty Gilpin in Season 2
We don’t yet know what role David Jones will play in the second season of The Lowdown. This news comes after Betty Gilpin joined the cast. The popular show, which premiered on FX last fall, already stars a talented group of actors including Ethan Hawke (Moon Knight), Keith David (They Live), Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew), Kaniehtiio Horn (Letterkenny), Tim Blake Nelson (Watchmen), Jeanne Tripplehorn (The Terminal List), Michael “Killer Mike” Render (Billions), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Tracy Letts (A House of Dynamite), and the late Graham Greene (Dances With Wolves).
Sterlin Harjo, one of the creators of Reservation Dogs, developed The Lowdown. This series, filmed in Tulsa, Oklahoma, centers on Lee Raybon (played by Hawke), a bookstore owner who investigates and writes about the city’s corruption. The first season begins when a powerful family, targeted in one of Lee’s articles, experiences a death, drawing Lee into a complex conspiracy. The show is based on the life and work of real-life historian Lee Roy Chapman.
The Lowdown Has a Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
The first season of The Lowdown was a critical and popular success. It received almost universally positive reviews, earning a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and being named a top ten show of 2025 by the American Film Institute. Beyond strong reviews, it also performed very well on Hulu, and a second season was quickly announced just two months after the first season concluded.
As a huge fan of this show, I’ve been really curious about where it’s headed. The creator, Sterlin Harjo, has mentioned having tons of ideas for future seasons. He’s thought a lot about expanding the world, especially focusing on Oklahoma and the connections Lee made in the first season. But a big part of what shapes the story is seeing what viewers connect with. People absolutely love Waylon, so he’s definitely thinking about where that character could go. And honestly, Killer Mike as Cyrus is just brilliant – it makes you wonder what amazing storylines they could build around him too. He’s got a lot of ideas brewing, and it’s exciting to think about what’s next!
The Lowdown is , and a premiere date has not yet been announced for Season 2 on FX.
