3 days from now, you’ll be able to get your hands on Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered – a collection of updated versions of three games from the widely recognized Lara Croft series. Recently, Matthew Ray, who is part of Aspyr Media studio, shared some insights in an interview with Nintendo Everything.
New elements and faithfulness to the originals
Initially, he clarified that the studio had always anticipated, right from the get-go, that they wouldn’t just release the remastered original trilogy; instead, they would continue with installments IV-VI. The positive fan response further confirmed their initial assumption, and work on parts I-III’s sequels started shortly after their launch. This is why we can expect them so soon.
Ray further confirmed that the team accumulated a substantial amount of beneficial knowledge during their work on the earlier project, while player feedback helped them understand what fans appreciate the most when it comes to remastered versions.
Due to this update, the fresh assortment is going to offer a photographic feature, empowering fans with greater control over their experience. Additionally, they’ll have the freedom to bypass cutscenes or enjoy newly added animations. However, it’s important to note that this update will strive to maintain its original integrity, meaning there will be no alterations in the storyline or censorship involved.
“Angel of Darkness is a pivotal chapter in Lara Croft‘s adventures”
In the interview, it was noted that the sixth part of the series, initially met with varying opinions among gamers upon its launch, is set to experience significant adjustments. Interestingly, Ray emphasized that these alterations are crucial not just for the sixth installment, but for the entire series as a whole.
In this revamped version, we’ve chosen to highlight Lara Croft as portrayed in “Angel of Darkness” (AoD) as our primary character on the cover art, recognizing its significant role in Lara’s journey. This game chapter has garnered a dedicated following and is highly regarded as a classic title by both Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics, making it deserving of special attention.
Ultimately, the developer made it clear that at present, there are no DLCs in the pipeline, but future decisions might be influenced by player input. Additionally, we’re looking forward to receiving details about special collectible merchandise. Notably, Aspyr is excited to carry on developing the series post-release of the IV-VI compilation.
The remastered versions of Tomb Raider IV-VI are set to launch on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
