Having anchored Top Story with Tom Llamas on NBC News NOW since 2022, I’ll be taking the helm this summer as Lester bids farewell. In a heartfelt statement, I expressed my deep admiration for Lester Holt – a true giant in broadcast journalism and one of the most trusted voices of our era. Just as he has been, I pledge to remain dedicated to you, our viewers, and unwavering in my pursuit of truth.
Initially, Llamas began his broadcasting journey with NBC News Specials Unit, later transitioning to MSNBC. For a period of seven years (from 2014 to 2021), he had an engagement with ABC News. During this time, he stood in for David Muir on ABC World News Tonight, and in 2017, he took over as the weekend anchor for the same program. Upon joining NBC Nightly News, he will make history by becoming the first Latino weekday anchor for this show. Additionally, he will continue with his work on Top Story.
Lester Holt expressed satisfaction with his replacement, stating he was “pleased” about the new hire. In a phone conversation with the staff of Nightly News, he said, “The team he’s taking over is excellent, I have no doubt you will all extend your full support as the change unfolds.
