Tom Holland revealed that the Spider-Man suits worn by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield influenced the design of his own ‘Brand New Day’ costume. He told Complex that he liked the idea of his Spider-Man wanting to emulate his ‘big brothers,’ noticing and appreciating details on their suits, and now creating his own look as an independent hero.
As a critic, I’m getting a strong sense that this isn’t just ‘Spider-Man 4’ – it feels like a total reboot. Tom Holland himself described it as the first film in a brand new saga, a real rebirth for the character. They’re not just continuing the story, they’re starting fresh! And visually, the new suit is fascinating – it cleverly combines elements of both Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man costumes, giving us a nod to the past while forging a new look.
Holland mentioned he was happy people noticed the nods to the Spider-Man suits worn by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. He explained that while the third movie was largely about honoring those actors, this new film shows Peter Parker looking up to them as older brothers.
Holland explained the suit was updated to be more comfortable and allow for better performance. He said it’s significantly more comfortable than previous versions and built in a completely new way, offering much greater flexibility. This allows him to explore different aspects of the character he couldn’t before, and he’s thrilled with how it looks on camera.
