In 2025, he made a comeback to television with the popular crime drama MobLand. The show was a big hit and immediately got picked up for a second season. He’s also waiting to hear about the future of his earlier series, Taboo.
The intense crime drama Taboo first aired in the UK on BBC One on January 7, 2017, and in the U.S. on FX on January 10. It was created by Steven Knight, the writer behind Peaky Blinders, and starred Tom Hardy, along with his father, Chips Hardy. The story was originally developed by the father-son team. In a recent interview with RadioTimes, Steven Knight shared news about Season 2.
Deadline announced the show’s renewal for a second season in March, but there haven’t been many updates since then. Thankfully, one of the show’s creators recently shared that there’s still a possibility it will continue.
Tom and I have discussed it, and we have a pretty good idea of how we’d proceed,” Knight said. “The main challenge is finding the opportunity. I get asked about this quite a bit, particularly in the United States.
Back in 2021, Knight shared that the writing for six out of the eight episodes of Season 2 was already complete. Filming was planned to begin whenever Tom Hardy’s availability allowed, but it hasn’t started yet.
I recently spoke with Knight, and he seems really hopeful about continuing the project. He and Tom are definitely interested in coming back, and apparently, there’s a lot of demand from fans for more. The main hurdle right now seems to be coordinating everyone’s busy schedules and figuring out the best way to move forward with the story.
In April 2025, Tom Hardy announced he was taking on a new role. “I’ve been really busy,” said the actor, known for his work in Venom: The Last Dance.
Taboo is a project that means a lot to me, my family, and Steven. We always intended to dedicate the necessary time to it, but my work on Venom over the past seven years meant it had to be put on hold. I’m really passionate about it, and I’ll definitely revisit it when I have the time and can give it the attention it deserves. It’s not that we didn’t want to do it, it’s just a matter of finding the right moment and doing it well.
Taboo Earned Strong Reviews
The story centers on James Keziah Delaney, an adventurer presumed dead who unexpectedly returns to London in 1814. He’s come to claim his father’s shipping business, but quickly finds himself facing numerous powerful enemies determined to make his life miserable.
The film has been well-received, earning a 76% approval rating and a “Certified Fresh” badge on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics particularly praising its mystery, story, and Tom Hardy’s performance. Audiences also loved it, giving it a 91% approval rating.
In addition to Hardy, the series Taboo featured Leo Bill as Benjamin Wilton, Jessie Buckley as Lorna Delaney, Oona Chaplin as Zilpha Geary, and Stephen Graham as Atticus, as well as other talented actors.
Taboo is streaming on Peacock and Prime Video, as well as for free on Tubi and Pluto TV.
