Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are famously connected through the Toy Story movies, and fans seem to appreciate their partnership even more with each new film. Beyond Toy Story 5, they’ve shown their support for each other’s work – Tim Allen recently attended a performance of Tom Hanks’ off-Broadway play, This World of Tomorrow.
Tom Hanks recently shared a story on Late Night With Seth Meyers about what happens after performances of Toy Story. He described how the cast found out Tim Allen, his co-star, was nearby after the show and eager to take pictures with everyone.
After each performance, some audience members greet friends and family. Others quickly change and head home, especially on busy days like Saturdays. But this time, the announcer invited everyone to take photos with the actors dressed as Buzz and Woody in the green room after the show, and surprisingly, everyone stuck around to do just that!
It’s interesting to consider that most of the actors have likely worked with Tom Hanks quite a bit by now. And if you add Tim Allen to the group, it feels like you’ve got the stars of the recently finished Toy Story 5, which changes the whole dynamic.

Tom Hanks recently shared that around 80 minutes of footage from the first Toy Story movie had to be completely removed and redone before its release, as he discussed the upcoming Toy Story 5.
Honestly, I don’t blame the actors for all wanting to be in a group photo. If I’d only gotten a picture with Tom Hanks by himself, it wouldn’t have felt as good knowing everyone else was in it too. I probably wouldn’t do that for stars of other Disney films, but these two are truly legendary – they’ve been icons since 1995, and that makes a difference.
I admire the ongoing friendship between Tim Allen and Tom Hanks, and how open they are about it, even though they probably get asked about it all the time. It seems Allen still follows Hanks’ advice from years ago: it’s easier to just answer the question directly than to keep saying they’ve discussed it before.
Tom Hanks isn’t rushing to finish his play because Toy Story 5 isn’t scheduled to come out until June 19th. The new movie will explore what happens when the toys encounter a tablet – a device many parents have complicated feelings about giving to their kids.
Look, until that movie finally hits screens, I’ll happily soak up every anecdote Tom Hanks shares about bumping into Tim Allen and the public’s reaction. Honestly, it’s good content! And thankfully, 2026 already looks packed with promising films, giving me plenty to look forward to while we wait.
