As a huge movie fan, I just found out that the Tom Cruise sci-fi action film is leaving Netflix soon – like, in just a few days! If you haven’t seen it, or want to rewatch this amazing blockbuster, this weekend is your last chance before it disappears from the platform. Seriously, don’t miss out!
Tom Cruise is still a major Hollywood star, largely due to the huge popularity of the Top Gun and Mission: Impossible series, and memorable films like Jerry Maguire and Collateral. While he doesn’t often appear in science fiction, his sci-fi movies, such as Edge of Tomorrow and Minority Report, are generally very well-received.
Tom Cruise’s Oblivion Leaves Netflix Soon – What It’s About
The popular sci-fi film Oblivion will no longer be available on Netflix after February 1, 2026. You’ll have until January 31st to watch it. The movie, directed by Joseph Kosinski, came out in 2013, and Kosinski’s more recent film, F1: The Movie, has been nominated for a Best Picture Oscar in 2026.
I recently watched Oblivion, and it’s a really cool movie! Tom Cruise plays Jack Harper, a guy who fixes drones on Earth in 2077. The Earth is pretty wrecked after a huge war where humans fought off aliens – these aliens are called Scavengers. Turns out, after winning the war with nukes, most of humanity escaped to a colony on Saturn’s moon, Titan.
I’m really invested in Jack’s story! He arrived on Earth with no memories, but after saving someone from a crashed ship, things started to change. He’s been getting these strange flashbacks and dreams, hinting at a life before the war. Now, he’s determined to uncover the truth about what really happened to the world, all while trying to get the last of humanity to safety. It’s a race against time and a quest for answers, and I can’t wait to see what he finds out!
Sci-Fi Fans Need To Stream Oblivion While They Still Can
Many of today’s big-budget action movies, like Top Gun: Maverick and F1, owe a debt to Oblivion. Released in 2013, this sci-fi film was groundbreaking for its grand scope and memorable soundtrack by M83. While it resonated more with audiences than critics when it first came out, Oblivion has become a beloved classic and remains essential viewing for sci-fi enthusiasts.
The movie Oblivion has a really interesting idea at its core, making it worth watching despite some negative reviews – it currently has a 53% score on Rotten Tomatoes. What really stands out are the stunning visuals and captivating music, though the story itself isn’t as strong.
Tom Cruise leads a talented cast – including Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Andrea Riseborough, and Olga Kurylenko – who all give solid performances. While it doesn’t quite reach the heights of sci-fi classics like Interstellar and 2001: A Space Odyssey, Oblivion is still an enjoyable film with enough happening in its 124 minutes to make it worth watching on Netflix before it leaves the platform this weekend.
