Tom Cruise’s American Made Lands Free Streaming Home

When the 2017 remake of The Mummy flopped, Tom Cruise’s other film that year, American Made, didn’t get much attention. But if you missed it, good news! American Made will soon be available to stream for free.

Okay, movie fans, here’s one you’ll want to check out! Tubi is adding American Made to its lineup on November 1st. It’s a really fun, surprisingly true story – loosely based on the life of Barry Seal, played by Tom Cruise. Cruise nails the role of a former airline pilot who gets pulled into the wild world of drug smuggling for Pablo Escobar in the 80s. To avoid prison, he ends up working with the DEA, which makes for a seriously twisty plot. The supporting cast – Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, Caleb Landry Jones, and Jesse Plemons – are all fantastic. Critics really liked it too; Rotten Tomatoes gives it an 85% approval rating, so it’s definitely worth a watch!

Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible films are big hits in theaters, but American Made didn’t perform as well, earning $134.9 million worldwide on a $50 million budget. Though it wasn’t a blockbuster, American Made likely made a small profit for the studio, unlike The Mummy, which is estimated to have cost Universal Pictures around $95 million. While profitable, American Made‘s earnings probably weren’t enough to make up for The Mummy‘s losses.

American Made Reunited Tom Cruise With Doug Liman

Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman previously worked together on the 2014 film Edge of Tomorrow, and have been trying to collaborate again ever since. Since 2020, they’ve been developing a high-budget ($200 million) movie planned to be filmed in outer space with Universal Pictures. However, at a recent film festival, Liman admitted the project is stalled due to both of their demanding schedules.

After finishing his 30-year role as Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible films, Tom Cruise is starring in a new movie where he plays the world’s most powerful leader. He’s on a desperate quest to prove he’s a hero before a catastrophe he caused wipes out everything. The film also features a strong supporting cast including Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Emma D’Arcy, Michael Stuhlbarg, John Goodman, and Jesse Plemons, who previously worked with Cruise on American Made.

Tom Cruise is also considering another project, and Warner Bros. is interested in making a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow. According to Production Weekly, this sequel could start filming in 2026. If it happens, Edge of Tomorrow 2 would be the third collaboration between Cruise and director Doug Liman, with Emily Blunt also returning to star. Cruise and Liman are also working on a different film that was originally scheduled to begin filming in August, but production was delayed due to financing problems.

American Made arrives on Tubi on Nov. 1.
