Tom Cruise Says He Would ‘Pass Out’ From ‘Not Getting Oxygen’ While Filming ‘Mission: Impossible’ Plane Stunts: ‘I Was Unable to Get Back Into the Cockpit’

Tom Cruise admitted that during the filming of ‘Mission: Impossible’s’ airplane stunts, he sometimes fainted due to insufficient oxygen.

In a conversation with Empire, Cruise shared that if you lean out of an airplane traveling at speeds between 120 and 130 miles per hour, you won’t receive oxygen. As a result, he had to learn special breathing techniques because there were instances when I would faint due to lack of oxygen, making it difficult for me to regain consciousness and return to the cockpit.

In the “Mission: Impossible” series, Tom Cruise has performed death-defying feats such as scaling the Burj Khalifa, leaping a motorcycle off a precipice, and hanging onto the top of a speeding train. According to director Christopher McQuarrie, the stunts in the upcoming movie, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” will be even more daring, with one specific scene causing him such anxiety that it made him feel nauseous from the tension.

McQuarrie remarked, “This movie features mind-boggling stunts.” He also mentioned that on any given day in Africa, Tom would perform an action that surpassed all his previous feats.

McQuarrie wasn’t merely exaggerating when he made this statement. In fact, during a preview screening of “Final Reckoning” in January, one viewer reportedly came close to experiencing a heart attack due to the intensity of a specific stunt scene.

During a brief preview, someone commented, “I felt like I couldn’t breathe throughout it all; I came close to having a panic attack,” McQuarrie remarked. And I replied to myself, “It seems like we managed to achieve our goal effectively.

The movie titled ‘Mission: Impossible – The Last Stand’ is scheduled to premiere on May 23, 2025. Initially intended for a 2022 debut, its screening was postponed due to the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA strike.
