Tom Brady cloned his late dog with help from viral ‘dire wolf’ biotech firm

Tom Brady recently shared that he had his deceased dog, Lua, cloned through Colossal Biosciences, the company known for its work attempting to resurrect the woolly mammoth and other extinct species.

Colossal Biosciences, a company in Dallas, Texas, recently gained attention for saying they’d created a version of the extinct dire wolf using gene editing and cloning techniques with gray wolf cells. The company has also announced plans to bring back the woolly mammoth and Tasmanian tiger, often generating a lot of buzz on social media with its ambitious projects.

Tom Brady had his dog, Junie, cloned by Colossal Biosciences, the same company that cloned his previous dog, Lua, who passed away in December 2023. Before Lua’s death, a sample of her DNA was collected. Colossal’s pet cloning service, Viagen Pets & Equine, used this sample to create Junie. Brady described the process as gentle and helpful in coping with his loss.

Brady calls cloned dog a ‘second chance’ for his family

Tom Brady recently told People magazine how much his pets mean to his family. He explained that a few years ago, he partnered with Colossal to clone their aging dog using a simple blood sample taken before she died.

Junie is a genetic copy of Lua, created through a special process. Brady described it as a way to welcome a cherished pet back into their family, like getting a second chance.

Colossal Biosciences is gaining a reputation as a leading biotech company, and this latest project further solidifies that position. They’re now famous not only for their work bringing back prehistoric wolves, but also for helping a famous football player get a new dog.
