In the scenario of “The Ballad of Wallis Island,” imagine you are a wealthy tycoon. Who would you choose to entertain at your secluded island getaway? This is the foundation for the film, with comedian Tim Key portraying lottery winner Charles, who forces his beloved band back together using his newfound wealth. The cast also includes Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan as former bandmates and lovers, McGwyer & Mortimer. Despite the questionable premise, Key (who co-wrote the film with Basden, based on a short they made in 2008) emphasizes that it’s a comedy, not another tale of an unscrupulous billionaire trapping people on an island.
