Todd Howard, you’ve done it again: Skyrim now has a Switch 2 Anniversary Edition, just when you thought Bethesda might have run out of ways to re-release the 14-year-old RPG

You won’t believe it, but Bethesda is releasing Skyrim again. It seems like they’ve re-released this RPG countless times, and a version for the new Switch 2 was pretty much expected.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim – Anniversary Edition is now available on the new Switch 2! Bethesda surprised everyone with the release, and if you already own the Anniversary Edition on the original Switch and upgrade to the Switch 2, you can get it for free. If you have the base version of Skyrim on Switch, you can purchase an upgrade to the Anniversary Edition instead.

The Switch 2 version of Skyrim includes all three DLC expansions – Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire – plus the exclusive content previously available on the original Switch, like the Master Sword, Champion’s Tunic, and Hylian Shield inspired by The Legend of Zelda. It also features improved performance you’d expect on the new hardware.

This new version will load much faster and look sharper than the original Switch game, with overall improved performance. Plus, Bethesda is adding tons of new content – hundreds of items created by the Creation Club, including new weapons, armor, quests, and dungeons to explore.

Bethesda hasn’t compared the graphics of the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions yet, but with the Switch 2 already released, we’ll likely see a comparison soon.

It’s been over 14 years since Skyrim first came out, and it’s almost comical how many different versions and platforms it’s been released on, especially with the developers remaining quiet about The Elder Scrolls 6. However, this latest re-release is sure to be welcome news for anyone getting a Switch 2. And considering how well Skyrim is still doing after all these years, game director Todd Howard is probably pretty happy about it too.
