The newest video game is now available on Nintendo Switch! Players can dive into a tabletop-inspired adventure featuring beloved characters from a popular anime fantasy group, starting today.
Nintendo’s recently announced Fairy Tail: Dungeons is a card-based RPG where you explore a challenging, ever-changing dungeon. The game features a brand new story and lets you play as 10 different characters, including popular heroes like Lucy Heartfilia and Natsu Dragneel. You’ll build custom card decks to battle enemies in a dungeon that weakens anyone who enters.
Fairy Tail: Dungeons Is Finally Available for the First Time on Nintendo Switch
Originally released for PC in August 2024, Dungeons is now available on Nintendo Switch thanks to a partnership between Kodansha and Nintendo. The Switch version includes extra content not found in the original PC game, such as five new characters to play as, a new difficulty level, and other additions.
The story of Dungeons starts when Natsu and Happy find a secret door beneath the Fairy Tail guild. They quickly discover their magic isn’t working, and they meet an Exceed named Labi. Labi explains how to use special decks to battle monsters within a massive labyrinth. Soon, the rest of the Fairy Tail guild joins them, and they all team up to reach the deepest level of the dungeon. Interestingly, the game’s final boss was designed and illustrated by a talented artist.
The game features 10 characters you can play, and each one has unique skills and abilities that help you in combat. Some characters, like Lucy, are strong attackers, while others, such as Gray Fullbuster, use magic to give you an edge in battle.
I’m really excited about how you can chain cards together in this game to unleash some seriously powerful combos – it can really devastate your opponents! And the best part? Unlike some other games, you can earn every single upgrade card just by playing! You get them from treasure chests and winning battles – no need to spend any extra money. It’s fantastic!
Hiro Mashima’s popular manga series, Fairy Tail, first appeared in Weekly Shonen Magazine from August 2006 to July 2017. Over its 11-year run, it gained a huge fanbase and sold more than 72 million copies globally. In 2018, Mashima began a sequel called Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, following Natsu and Lucy on a dangerous quest to defeat five powerful Dragon Gods and save their world. Mashima writes and plans the story for this ongoing series, with artwork by Atsuo Ueda.
Several animation studios—A-1 Pictures (known for Solo Leveling), Satelight (Macross), and Cloverworks (Spy x Family)—worked together on a project that began in 2009, with each studio responsible for different parts over the course of ten years. Production has since moved to a new studio, which is now adapting 100 Years Quest with director Toshinori Watanabe (known for Naruto Shippuden). The first season of 100 Years Quest, which premiered in the Summer 2024 anime season, finished airing on January 5, 2025.
I noticed that Fairy Tail: Dungeons is now out on Nintendo Switch, though it’s only available as a digital download for $13.99. If you’re a fan of the series, you can also watch the Fairy Tail anime on Crunchyroll, and read the original manga in English thanks to Kodansha USA.
