Actor Timothy Busfield has surrendered to authorities and been formally charged, according to the New York Times. A spokesperson for the Albuquerque Police Department confirmed to Vulture that Busfield turned himself in to address an outstanding warrant. In a video released by TMZ, filmed in his lawyer’s office, Busfield stated he intends to defend himself against the accusations, calling them “horrible” and denying any wrongdoing with the two young actors. He’s been accused of sexually abusing two child actors on the set of The Cleaning Lady between 2022 and 2024, with both children claiming Busfield inappropriately touched them while they were alone. The U.S. Marshals assisted Albuquerque Police in his arrest, which occurred three days after a warrant was issued on January 9.
Melissa Gilbert, wife of Tim Busfield, released a statement through her representative confirming she’s supporting her husband during the legal proceedings. Following the advice of Busfield’s legal team, she won’t be making public comments at this time and is focused on caring for their family. Gilbert stands by her husband and plans to address the situation when the time is right. Her representative also clarified that any online statements attributed to her, including AI-generated videos, are not authentic and should be disregarded. This is her only official statement.
