Timothee Chalamet reveals he was obsessed with Yu-Gi-Oh! and even played at card shops

Timothée Chalamet recently shared that he was a huge fan of Yu-Gi-Oh! when he was growing up. This comes as he gets ready to star in a new film that brings him back to the world of the popular card game.

It’s easy to forget that celebrities and athletes were once kids just like us, especially when we see them on TV, in movies, or competing in sports. Many of today’s stars actually shared similar childhood experiences – they played the same video games and read the same books as everyone else.

Timothée Chalamet, known for his role in Dune, has surprised fans with his diverse interests. It was discovered in 2021 that he used to run a YouTube channel called ModdedController360, where he showcased customized Xbox controllers. This hobby then inspired a unique project: he portrayed a character named Shend, created solely for an interview with W Magazine.

During an interview, the 30-year-old was photographed playing Yu-Gi-Oh! at a New York card shop. He later shared that he had been a big fan of the game when he was younger.

Marty Supreme said he loved collecting cards as a child, recalling this interest after playing the role of Shend, according to an interview with W magazine.

I’ve been a fan since I was a kid – I remember being around 12 or 13 and hanging out at Midtown Comics just to play. What really grabbed me was how the game let you combine all sorts of different character types and backgrounds – it was awesome!

It’s totally blown up on social media, this whole thing! And it’s wild because so many people are saying they were at that same card shop around the same time. It’s like, ‘Wow, we could have been there too!’ It’s really cool and a little crazy to think about.

I was really surprised to find out he’s a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh!, honestly. Someone else joked that he should be the one to play Yugi in a live-action movie.

People were also surprised by the cards Timothée Chalamet was holding in the pictures. One commenter noted, “He’s got a junk speeder and is known for his skills,” playfully referencing his abilities.

Okay, so it’s not just me who’s obsessed with collecting cards! I just found out Amber Glenn, the Olympic figure skater, is a massive Magic: The Gathering player. It’s awesome to see other people, especially celebs, getting into the hobby!

She enjoys spending her free time playing games at local stores. ‘I know it might seem a bit nerdy,’ she admitted, ‘but it’s a hobby I really love.’
