Timothée Chalamet Loses Oscar to Kenan Thompson in ‘SNL’ Monologue

Timothée Chalamet just can’t catch a break during awards season.

Actor known for roles in “Dune” and “A Complete Unknown” used some time during his “Saturday Night Live” speech to express disappointment over consistently missing out on significant awards.

Going to these award shows is a massive privilege, an incredible experience,” said Chalamet. “However, I can’t help but feel defeated every time I don’t win, and it becomes harder each time to hide the disappointment.” A series of clips showing Chalamet’s disappointed expressions at past Golden Globes and Academy Awards ceremonies were then shown.

As a cinephile, I can’t help but feel exhilarated about Timothée Chalamet gracing our screens so soon after his Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. This recognition came from his exceptional portrayal of the legendary music icon Bob Dylan in the biopic “A Complete Unknown.” Remarkably, this is now his second Oscar nod, as he had previously been nominated in the same category for the film “Call Me by Your Name.

Later on, Chalamet confessed that he had prepared a victory speech, but never got the opportunity to deliver it. He requested the audience’s patience as he passed a small envelope to a man seated at the front, eager to step onto the stage and give his speech. However, when the man announced the winner from the envelope, it was none other than Kenan Thompson.

In his Oscar acceptance speech, Thompson expressed gratitude to his fellow nominees for their outstanding work that year, and then added, “By the way, I’m a big fan of Bob Dylan. This one’s for you, Bob!” When Chalamet politely asked Thompson if he could please continue with introducing the show, Thompson responded playfully, “Oh, absolutely. Carry on. A bit of a drama queen, aren’t we?

In the monologue, Bob Dylan was often brought up, with Chalamet likening him to Willy Wonka, a character Timothée Chalamet has portrayed before. “They’re both quirky individuals. They’re both pioneers, and they both had control over hundreds of helpers similar to the Oompa Loompas.

Previously declared, Chalamet will be performing two roles on “SNL” – both the musical act and the host for the January 25th installment. Notably, this marks his debut as a musical guest; however, he has previously hosted the long-standing NBC comedy series on two separate occasions.
