Tara Wood recently finished her extensive, four-part documentary series delving into the life and career of Tim Burton, renowned director of films like “Batman,” “Beetlejuice,” and “Edward Scissorhands.” This is the first time Burton has backed a project focusing on his professional journey, featuring exclusive interviews, unpublished artworks, as well as an unprecedented stop-motion short film. The initial episode of this documentary series was initially screened at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival as a sneak peek and received positive feedback and excitement. WME is now managing worldwide sales for the project.
The documentary series additionally features discussions with Burton’s closest associates, such as Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, Danny Elfman, Danny DeVito, Christoph Waltz, Christopher Walken, and Mia Wasikowska. This series also delves deep into the director’s semi-autobiographical characters and films, as well as his numerous artworks of similar themes.

After receiving an extraordinary reception for Episode 1 at Tribeca and fans eagerly demanding more, I’m ecstatic to share that we’ve finally completed the much-anticipated Tim Burton documentary series!” stated Wood. “Tim narrates his life journey through his films, making this documentary a captivating exploration of cinematic history spanning decades. It offers profound insights into his life, passions, and challenges – but keeping it to just four episodes is proving quite a task!
Wood’s documentary series delve into both personal and professional aspects of several prominent filmmakers. Previously, she helmed “QT8: The First Eight,” which focused on the career of Quentin Tarantino, the writer and director behind “Pulp Fiction” and “Kill Bill.” Additionally, she collaborated with another director to create “21 Years: Richard Linklater,” a piece that examined the filmmaking journey of the creator of “Dazed and Confused.
Tim Burton’s documentary series was created by Wood, collaborating with Joe Clarke, and alongside Jake Zortman. The executive producers of this project are Allen Gilmer, Riki Rushing, Berge Garabedian, Robert C. McGirr, and Lorraine Lamb.
